On March 17, BYD officially launched its "Megawatt Flash Charging" technology at the Super e-Platform Technology Release Conference. BYD Group Chairman Wang Chuanfu stated that this technology can achieve a peak charging speed of 2 kilometers per second, allowing a driving range of over 400 kilometers with just 5 minutes of charging. This breakthrough has also brought the concept of "oil-electric parity" into the spotlight in the new energy vehicle (NEV) market. Following the announcement, BYD's stock price surged 6% at the opening on Tuesday, reaching a new high of HK$408.8 per H-share. Although the increase later moderated, the stock rebounded above HK$400 in the afternoon and closed at HK$402.4, up 4.4%, with a trading volume of nearly HK$6.5 billion.
From the nationwide rollout of intelligent driving at the beginning of the year to the introduction of the "Lingyuan" intelligent in-car drone system, and now the launch of the Super e-Platform, BYD has successively introduced three key technologies, accelerating its electrification strategy. By leveraging both technological innovation and competitive pricing, BYD is further raising the market entry threshold. Other listed automakers in the Hong Kong stock market responded swiftly, indicating that the NEV industry has entered a new phase of technological competition.
Overall, as the penetration rate of NEVs continues to increase, the fierce competition in both products and pricing is driving market differentiation. Traditional "price wars" are becoming less effective in making products stand out, while technology-driven competition, especially in intelligence and automation, may become a crucial factor in accelerating industry reshuffling.
