福特、通用紛紛開始造芯片了
過去的一年，世界各地的汽車製造商大部分時間都在應對半導體短缺的問題，全球芯片短缺導致包括福特(F.US)、通用(GM.US)在內的汽車製造商削減汽車產量。
大多數公司已將它們能夠獲得的芯片用於本公司最賺錢的車型，這促使汽車製造商探索提高芯片使用率的方法。
由於從加熱座椅到信息娛樂系統的一切都需要由芯片控制，因此在芯片短缺的情況下，部分汽車製造商生產出未安裝芯片的汽車，並等待芯片到達之後最終向客戶交付；而另外一些汽車製造商選擇交付給客戶沒有一些通常功能的“閹割版”車輛。
而隨着新電動汽車和UltraCruise等複雜駕駛員輔助系統的出現，半導體需求在新的幾年裏翻了一番還多。
面對買不起又買不到的“缺芯”困境，福特、通用開始“絕地求生”，紛紛投向芯片製造領域。
福特、通用同日宣佈進軍芯片製造業
智通財經APP獲悉，11月18日，福特和芯片製造商GlobalFoundries(GFS.US)宣佈，計劃共同研發和生產高端芯片，爲福特和美國汽車行業增加芯片供應，但未能提供合作細節。
兩家公司宣佈了一項不具約束力的協議，該協議可能涉及提高福特當前產品線的生產能力，並對主要用於電池管理系統和自動駕駛系統的幾類未來汽車關鍵芯片進行聯合研發。
此次戰略合作不涉及公司之間的交叉持股權，福特副總裁Chuck Gray表示：“我們希望福特和GlobalFoundries將以更正式的方式進行合作，來增加對芯片的供應，以支持我們當前和未來的芯片需求。”
與此同時，通用汽車也於當天在投資者會議上表示，公司旨在通過創新以解決全球半導體短缺問題。
通用汽車總裁Mark Reuss表示，通用正在與七家芯片供應商合作開發三個新的微控制器系列，這將使未來汽車上的特定芯片的數量減少95%。
供應商合作夥伴包括高通(QCOM.US)、意法半導體(STM.US)、臺積電(TSM.US)、Renesas(RNECF.US)、恩智浦(NXPI.US)、Infineon(IFNNF.US)和安森美半導體(ON.US)等。
Reuss表示，其自制芯片將整合一些現在由單個芯片處理的功能，降低生產成本和複雜性，並將提高芯片的質量和可預測性。
據悉，除這兩家公司之外，大衆等一些主要汽車製造商也紛紛入局，表示他們計劃設計自己的自動駕駛芯片。
